Is this your Lucky Day?

Recently, our attention came across a little band from DC called Lucky Day. The band consists of the lovely Victoria Patchen on vocals and keys, Brian Huber on guitars, David Ray on drums and Eric Belec on bass. We’ve been listening to some of the tracks available on their MySpace and we must say - we’re impressed. We get quite a few bands asking us to write about them, and they have to ask for a reason - because they suck. Needless to say we’ve never written about THOSE bands!

Lucky Day’s sound is definitely up to par with their influences (Verve, The Cure, Sheryl Crow, Rilo Kiley, Coldplay, The Church, and heaps more!) - we are also LOVING their choices of influences, many of those bands are some of OUR favourites. The best part of the band? How they describe their music’s sound: “Rilo Kiley having a make-out session with Oasis and then breaking up 10 minutes later… ” That’s the most perfect description to a band we’ve ever heard!

Patchen’s voice is melodious as it is sweet and suits every song and lyric perfectly. The boys do a great job as a tight musical unit which makes us wonder where the similarities between Lucky Day and Rilo Kiley end. Perhaps there’s a romance brewing between two band members? We don’t know, we didn’t research that much! We just listened to the music!

Now, their sophomore effort Rise and Fall, will be out soon, and to celebrate they’re having a few CD release parties. Be sure you make an appearance if you’re in the area. The dates are as follows:

We would usually review each song of theirs, but we think this is unnecessary as we enjoyed them all thoroughly. (Though the new single “Why You Have To Go” is very catchy!)
